How do you make coconut milk from a real coconut?


I just got a coconut as a gift from my neighbor and I cracked it open, poured out the water into a cup, and scooped out all the flesh. Don’t I have to grind the flesh? I don’t know, I just want to make coconut milk because I want to know what it tastes like.

      Coconut milk is a sweet, milky white cooking base derived from the meat of a mature coconut.

      The term "coconut milk" does not refer to the watery liquid found inside the nut; this is called "coconut water" or "coconut juice."

      Thick coconut milk is prepared by directly squeezing grated coconut meat through cheesecloth.
      If you want thin coconut milk, then the squeezed coconut meat is soaked in warm water and squeezed a second or third time for thin coconut milk.
